Never underdress. By all means, develop your own style, but try to avoid jeans or trainers, even if you’re not client-facing. This includes clothes with rips in them, or trousers that have paint splashed artistically across them. Casual clothes can give the impression that you’re not particularly fussed about your image, and, as a result, the quality of work you’re producing. Always dress in a way that would allow you to attend an unplanned meeting without embarrassment.

Ladies – a face full of make-up can be slightly intimidating (and look dreadful), but don’t shy away from a touch of colour.
