I was interested in the Kangol French Painters’ Cap which has a grey, black, and green houndstooth check pattern. I am fond of newsboy style hats and this unisex hat can be worn by both women and men.

When I first received the Kangol French Painters’ Cap for review on inspection I did find a hole in the seam of the hat. This can be a natural problem for fabric hats but I was able to successfully stitch the cap up. On first look at the cap the colors and pattern in the hat were more vibrant and looked better than the product photo. I was pleased to find the upper part of the hat is soft and stretchy, which is a plus for those of us who wear a larger hat size and have difficulty finding good fitting hats. The fabric is a soft Jacquard acrylic that fits comfortably on the head. This hat fit perfectly with plenty of room to spare. The floppy top of the hat has a large houndstooth check pattern in dark grey, black and green, while the brim has a small check pattern which together is very appealing.

Plus Size Review: Sexycostumes.com Halloween Costumes

Sexycostumes.com was kind enough to send me a free Halloween outfit and a pair of costume saddle shoes for review. Sexycostumes.com has a great line of plus size costumes with a sexy style, including vampire, nurse, referee, Snow White, 60′s style, saloon girl, Robin Hood, honey bee, Queen Of Hearts, superhero Supergirl, and more.

I ordered the plus size costume Plus Size Black Velvet Flapper Dress (Priced at $49.99). The style is a 20′s flapper dress made of black velvet. The flapper costume is very pretty, with fringe and sequins that dress it up to create an authentic flapper look. The plus size velvet dress comes complete with a Sequined Headpiece w/ Feather Choker. Sexycostumes.com has a number of accessories you can pair with your costume, including wigs and shoes.

I received the package via FedEx, it was securely packaged and arrived in good condition. The quality of the costume was excellent, the velvet fabric was soft and substantial for a Halloween costume and the color was as shown in the product photo and the headpiece and feather choker also matched the photo.

The flapper dress features a silver and black sequin choker with matching headpiece with an attached feather. The dress is outlined with a black sequin trim and there is black fringe that hangs from the sleeves and bottom of the dress, making a flirty swing whenever you move. There are black and silver sequins lining the waist of the dress. A spandex leotard is also built in for added control.

Costumes are different sizing wise than traditional clothing you would find in the mall, you need to take this into consideration when purchasing a costume in general. I ordered my normal size and the sizing chart showed for the size I ordered proportions larger than what I typically wore. Upon trying the flapper dress on I found it was smaller than expected. The main fitting problem seemed to be the body length of the leotard which could have been longer, thinking it over now perhaps I should have ordered up a size larger.

The Black Plus Size Velvet Flapper Dress costume is available in sizes 1X to 4X for plus size women. You should check over the sizing chart that comes with every product costume page on the site, you may want to consider ordering up a size if you are close to the sizing shown in the chart, Sexycostumes.com suggests adding 3 to 4 inches in size beyond what you normally order in clothes for optimum movement in your costume.

Sexycostumes.com also sent me a pair of black and white saddle shoes (Priced at $19.99). Perfect to use for a 50′s look, they would be ideal paired with a 50′s style poodle skirt for Halloween. I ordered a size 8 shoe and was aware the length in inches of shoe size shown on the product page might be a little smaller than what I would normally wear. These saddle shoes are made in Italy and are quality made, they look great with the two toned colors which matches the product photo, and the shoes have a sturdy thick shoe sole as well. The saddle shoes are narrow to medium width so this is something to keep in mind when ordering. The size large/size 8 saddle shoe was an inch or more shorter than my foot length. In the case of these saddle shoes check the size chart and you might want to consider ordering up a size for the shoes which may be helpful.

Plus Size Product Review: Delta Burke® Swimsuit Swimsuitsforall.com

I chose the Mayan Mosaique Scoop Neck Swimsuit by Delta Burke® because I’ve always wanted to try a Delta Burke® swimsuit and I loved the pattern and color combination of the swimsuit. I was surprised by the quality of the swimsuit, the fit, and the fabric.

On first look at the Mayan Mosaique Scoop Neck Swimsuit by Delta Burke® it appeared to be a very well made swimsuit. There is a vivid graphic pattern with brighter colors at top and darker, slimming colors from the bust down. The suit is flattering, brighter colors make the upper neck and chest area a focus while the dark patterned suit at the bottom flatters curvier figures. The background color of the suit is a dark navy blue. The graphic patterns use a light blue and navy blue mixed with a bright lime green at the bust, with a lighter blue mixed with navy blue pattern from the bust down and from the back of the suit down. The lime green color is actually more vivid than the photo, very pretty and the pattern is very flattering for curvy shapes. The fabric is a little heavier than most swimsuits which I prefer, and the fabric is plenty stretchy providing a very comfortable fit.

The swimsuit turned out to be a perfect fit when I tried it on. I went up a size because the Delta Burke® swimsuit measurements were smaller than usual for my size. I would recommend checking the sizing for Delta Burke® suits and consider going up one size when ordering. The only thing I did notice about the suit is that it seems slightly tighter under the arms for fit, but still this is barely snug with plenty of room to move, so it’s really no problem. The bra shelf fits wonderfully as do the shoulder straps. The swimsuit bra goes up to size D/DD, and is a different size than I wear. When I tried on the suit the bra fit as if it had been made for me.

This is a perfect fitting swimsuit, and definitely the best swimsuit I’ve ever owned. I’m very impressed with the quality, style, fabric, and fit of this swimsuit. The Mayan Mosaique Scoop Neck Swimsuit by Delta Burke® is on sale and priced at $78.00 at Swimsuitsforall.com.

Clothing Review: City Chic Plus Size Jeans

City Chic was kind enough to send a pair of their Glamourzon Night Jeans to me to review. The jeans shown in the image was black, the jean I received was a dark denim wash. As a plus size woman I find it difficult at times to find a really dark wash color denim, so many styles go medium or light wash. This jean was as dark a blue as I’ve ever seen, and believe me I’ve bought a lot of jeans over the years. The color is beautiful, if you are looking for a dressy jean these will fit the bill.

I tried the Glamourzon Night Jeans on and at first it was a tight squeeze. Trying them on a second time they fit perfectly, they may have needed an initial first stretch to form to my body. They are form fitting indeed, very curvy and look crisp and fresh with no creases or bumps. The denim jeans are a mix of cotton, polyester, and spandex, which means no shrinking, great comfy fit, and they will always look terrific on, which is a real plus for me. I love having spandex in my jeans and these jeans have a good amount spandex. The spandex makes the jean hug your curves but they are still very comfortable to wear all day long, it is the perfect amount of stretch in a jean. The Glamourzon Night Jeans do not have a petite or tall length, if you order them they will be average length or longer. Since I’m on the shorter side I’ll need to turn them up, but I am used to hemming most pants I purchase. If you like your jeans long you will love these jeans. The bootcut seems more flared than most bootcut jeans I have purchased, if you like bootcut flare you will like these jeans.

The dark wash denim jeans have a zip fly, five pockets, with a small diamante ‘CC’ on the back pocket. Speaking of the pockets, they are deep, which I always appreciate. Nothing worse than a half pocket that barely holds a chapstick. The front pockets have plenty of room to spare, with a mini pocket included in the right pocket. The back pockets are long, something to keep in mind since they substantially cover your butt area. I love big pockets and think the design is fabulous front and back. There are ample belt loops for a wide belt to accompany the jeans. The stitching on the jeans is a warm golden yellow stitch that runs around the pockets, waist, and seams of the jeans.

The denim jeans have a mid-rise waist, located between the typical waist top jeans and low riding jeans, which should work for most women. One of my favorite aspects of the Glamourzon Night Jeans is how they hug your curves but most importantly how the legs are tailored in proportion to the rest of the jean. I can’t tell you how many jeans I buy that fit correctly in the midsection but have huge baggy legs that make the jean profile less appealing. If you like wide leg jeans this is no problem, but I prefer a closer fit for legs and these jeans fit the leg area perfectly. I have to commend City Chic for paying attention to this kind of detail with their jeans.

This plus size ruffle front chambray tunic shirt is very cute, a shirt you can wear dressed up with slacks or dressed down with your favorite jeans or leggings. The cut of the tunic and the cotton fabric is comfortable, and the workmanship of the product is quality made.

Fashion To Figure’s plus size ruffle front tunic features a tuxedo ruffle front with flattering pleating, tie-back style and long tunic length with generous sizing for comfortable fit. The sleeves have a button tab detail that allows you to tie up the sleeves to elbow length or unbutton to 3/4 sleeve length. The collar is a mandarin style fitting close to the neck with buttons from the top of the collar to the bottom of the tuxedo ruffle. The pleating falls from the front collar to just below the tuxedo ruffle. The plus size tunic comes in Indigo in sizes 1X to 3X. The 100% cotton fabric is a medium weight, making the garment feel sturdy not flimsy. The shape of the tunic reminds me very much of a babydoll style shirt I had that I loved that fit well at the top and bloused out from the bustline below. The cotton fabric of this tunic is very soft and of good quality, with nice finishings on the trim, hem and sleeves of the tunic. A size 1X is 32 inches long from shoulder. Those of you who are short like me (5’2″) should know the tunic will hit below mid thigh and the sleeves when turned down may be longer than 3/4 length. I love tunic length so the longer the better as far as I’m concerned. I was also happy with the lining up of the shoulder and sleeves, it is so rare when shoulders on me fit and hang correctly and with this tunic it fits perfectly that way. The one area I wish was different on the shirt is the area under the bust where the pleating blouses out from under the tuxedo ruffle. It would be even better if the the pleating started a little farther down under the bust, but that is my own preference for fit. The plus size tunic blouses out generously from under the bust area so it is roomy and the tunic is true to size for what was sent to me in terms of fit. I had to request a size up from my usual size for the Fashion To Figure tunic since their sizing is smaller than store plus sizes, so be sure to check their sizing chart before ordering.
