Fashion Article: Finding the Best Jeans for Your Body Type

We all come in different shapes and sizes, so luckily there is an abundance of different styles of jeans to suit our individual needs! But choosing the best jeans for your body type is no easy task, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the vast number of styles on offer. Let’s have a look at the cuts and styles you should look out for when looking for a new pair of jeans depending on your body type.

Athletic
You don’t have to be athletic to have an athletic body type. If you have narrow hips, a flat bottom and an undefined waist, a more curved body shape can be achieved by tucking your top into a pair of high-rise jeans. Lighter colours can be utilised to show more definition around the knee area and give more shape to the thigh. Also, look out for large pockets at the rear as they can allow you to achieve a fuller appearance.

Hour Glass
This distinctive body shape is made up of proportional curves at the top and bottom of the body with a defined waistline. Jeans that work best with this body type should run straight from the hip to the knee, ideally with a flare at the bottom of the jean to compliment the hour glass shape. Skinny fits should be avoided as they will accentuate wider hips. Darker colours also work best at creating a flatter look.

Apple
Women with an apple shape typically carry more weight around the middle, and is a tricky body shape to find suitable jeans for. Wider waistbands are helpful for waist support and should sit below the bellybutton. Stretch denim is useful at giving the jeans a more uniform fit, and darker colours make the jeans more flattering. For women with slimmer legs, a straight pair of jeans will create a more balanced look.

Pear
Finding jeans for pear-shaped women is a little easier. Flared or boot-cut jeans work best at making the body look less bottom-heavy. Again, darker colours work to give a flatter appearance and stretch denim brings a tighter shape to the middle area. Deep pockets should be avoided as these can accentuate the large middle and will make legs appear shorter.

Clothing Review: City Chic Plus Size Jeans

City Chic was kind enough to send a pair of their Glamourzon Night Jeans to me to review. The jeans shown in the image was black, the jean I received was a dark denim wash. As a plus size woman I find it difficult at times to find a really dark wash color denim, so many styles go medium or light wash. This jean was as dark a blue as I’ve ever seen, and believe me I’ve bought a lot of jeans over the years. The color is beautiful, if you are looking for a dressy jean these will fit the bill.

I tried the Glamourzon Night Jeans on and at first it was a tight squeeze. Trying them on a second time they fit perfectly, they may have needed an initial first stretch to form to my body. They are form fitting indeed, very curvy and look crisp and fresh with no creases or bumps. The denim jeans are a mix of cotton, polyester, and spandex, which means no shrinking, great comfy fit, and they will always look terrific on, which is a real plus for me. I love having spandex in my jeans and these jeans have a good amount spandex. The spandex makes the jean hug your curves but they are still very comfortable to wear all day long, it is the perfect amount of stretch in a jean. The Glamourzon Night Jeans do not have a petite or tall length, if you order them they will be average length or longer. Since I’m on the shorter side I’ll need to turn them up, but I am used to hemming most pants I purchase. If you like your jeans long you will love these jeans. The bootcut seems more flared than most bootcut jeans I have purchased, if you like bootcut flare you will like these jeans.

The dark wash denim jeans have a zip fly, five pockets, with a small diamante ‘CC’ on the back pocket. Speaking of the pockets, they are deep, which I always appreciate. Nothing worse than a half pocket that barely holds a chapstick. The front pockets have plenty of room to spare, with a mini pocket included in the right pocket. The back pockets are long, something to keep in mind since they substantially cover your butt area. I love big pockets and think the design is fabulous front and back. There are ample belt loops for a wide belt to accompany the jeans. The stitching on the jeans is a warm golden yellow stitch that runs around the pockets, waist, and seams of the jeans.

The denim jeans have a mid-rise waist, located between the typical waist top jeans and low riding jeans, which should work for most women. One of my favorite aspects of the Glamourzon Night Jeans is how they hug your curves but most importantly how the legs are tailored in proportion to the rest of the jean. I can’t tell you how many jeans I buy that fit correctly in the midsection but have huge baggy legs that make the jean profile less appealing. If you like wide leg jeans this is no problem, but I prefer a closer fit for legs and these jeans fit the leg area perfectly. I have to commend City Chic for paying attention to this kind of detail with their jeans.
