Adele’s soulful (and grammy winning) voice has garnered quite the buzz for the past year. With chart-climbing songs like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Rumor Has It,” her intense and personal lyrics have resonated well with audiences – as has her unique fashion sense. Although the Brit is only 21 years young, she’s become known for her signature retro style. Black winged liner and a modified bee-hive hairdo puts her right back into the 60s. Full figured and stunningly gorgeous, she’s been compared to Christina Hendrick’s character on Mad Men, Joan Holloway. She has pioneered a new breed of beauty with her curvy shape and her classy and timeless style.

Adele tends to favor the color black which is always in fashion, and maybe a tad moody – keeping with her soulful songs, of course. She also sticks with patterns and garment cuts that are simple, yet flattering. The black dress selected in the “look for less” brings a hint of textural interest with the polka dot pattern. The polka dots also keep with the sixties vibe, but the metallic fabric of the pattern makes the dress slightly modern. Pair it with plain black pumps, classic [6]cateye sunglasses, a [7]feminine ruffle clutch, and some statement earrings and you’ll get all the right kind of attention. Simple, elegant, and timeless. You just can’t go wrong with Adele’s style!

Not sure what classifies things as retro? I’ll share some insight. While retro generally refers to things that are aged or outdated, it specifically refers to the 1960s. In the postwar period, women’s beauty routines often included the beehive hairdo, heavily lined eyelids, and red lipstick. The full skirt of the 50s was still being worn by some, but the “tent” style dress and pencil skirt were gaining attention. Mod styles are included in this retro category, as are cat eye sunglasses and eyeglasses. Marilyn Monroe, known for her sultry looks and full figured shape, was exceedingly popular during this time period and her curvy shape made waves through Hollywood.
