New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and for many of us that leaves us scrambling to find the perfect ensemble for a night out on the town. While looking your best on New Year’s is always on everyone’s mind, shopping for that great outfit isn’t always an easy or enjoyable experience and is therefore often pushed to the back of our minds. However, you can’t exactly attend a New Year’s party without a great dress, and shopping doesn’t have to be so hard as long as you adhere to a few easy rules:

Easy on the Sparkle

While the holidays are full of extravagant décor and plenty of silver and gold, you do actually want to hold off on completely decking yourself out in it over New Years. A little shimmer here and there, such as a beautiful sparkling necklace and earring set to go with that amazing clutch, is perfectly fine, but having a dress that looks like it was attacked by a Bedazzler along with glitter encrusted heel, and that same handbag and jewelry set will have you looking like a disco ball.

Sure, glitter and sparkle is expected on New Year’s, just be sure to incorporate it into your own outfit in a tasteful manner.

Chiffon is Always Elegant

Picking the right style of dress isn’t always easy. On top of trying to look good, you also have to find a dress that is comfortable enough to party all night in. Not to mention, one that isn’t some awful fabric that will show every wrinkle from sitting or every mark from brushing up against the bar or other party-goers. So what is the best type of dress to get? Something dark and in Chiffon.

Not only is Chiffon nice and breathable making it very comfortable to stay in all night, but it is also very elegant due to its flowiness and it very forgiving due to the way most designers use the fabric in a loose layered way. So when in doubt, pick a dress that is made out of Chiffon.

Watch the Length of Your Dress

Let’s face it ladies – we are not 18 anymore. A skirt or dress that stops just below your butt is by no means appropriate. The only time it is acceptable is if you have leggings on underneath, otherwise you shouldn’t be wearing such things.

For women, a tasteful skirt or dress needs to be just above or below your knee depending on whichever style fits you best. Not only will this allow you to show off your figure in a tasteful manner, but it will also allow you to show off the great pair of pumps you pick out for New Year’s too.

New Year’s Eve should be a nice evening of great dining, drinks, and fun. Don’t bog yourself down with worrying about your wardrobe. Pick something that is comfortable, fun, and that represents yourself in a tasteful manner and you can’t go wrong.
